Every year- as the warmer weather enters in and calls for less covering- a collective cry can be heard among a not insignificant number of ladies. It usually sounds something like… “Ugh! Shorts season! My legs are (pasty, chubby, veiny, insert complaint). I hate shorts!”
While there are plenty of new cuts and styles in the dreaded shorts arena to cure us of this phobia (and we shall make sure to talk about that later), there is still the easy fall-back solution of the more merciful skirt.
Our racks are stuffed full right now at Sassy Fox. Get in and try a few on.
First- we’ll highlight a favorite – the Maxi Skirt. This skirt transitions between seasons effortlessly. One is free to jump and skip and even fall without fear of flashing. Heck- the particular style below is already crinkled so you don’t have to worry about ironing.
Willow & Clay maxi skirt sz small $22, Alberto Fermani chunky heels sz 7 $54
As far as length guidelines- a very light floor-grazing and toe-peeping is great! Don’t dirty the hemline. If you’re under 5’5″, you can definitely still wear the maxi length. Just be sure to pair it with a fitted top to keep proportions in check.
Just not into the maxi? Too many in your closet already? Plenty of other adorable styles and lengths to choose from…
Light, flirty and breezy; Pleats in darker bold colors keep this one from being to frou-frou girly. This one’s a size 4 from White House Black Market -$18- (but little hint: waist is stretchy elastic! I won’t tell if you don’t). Perhaps pair with these Donald Pliner strappy low wedge, sz 9 $58
Another girly-but-not-too-girly option: an origami-like take on your basic black-and-white stripe (Eva Franco sz 10 $42). Pair with a bold color like these orange & black thongs (Carlos Santana sz 6 $16) or step it up for a night on the town with these right-on-trend black pumps (Diba sz 8.5 $28)
But of course- for those casual evening cornhole-tossing neighborhood barbecues … a simple nautical-inspired cotton J. Crew skirt hitting just above the knee- sz 8 $20. Pair with some comfy wedges like these Aerosoles, sz 6 $15
